2 reviews of María Elena

This town, with just over 7000 inhabitants, is located in the middle of nowhere. It's the last nitrate city active, since 1996, after the closure of the saltpetre Pedro de Valdivia. Decay is quite noticeable, but the salt extraction plant is still in operation. It's the only town for miles around for food and shelter.
