Monument to Elísio da Nova

A monument dedicated to Elísio Martins da Nova that's in the plaza of the same name, in the historic and commercial city center. Elísio da Nova was a telegraphist of Poveiro who died in his post fighting against a submarine during World War I. The monument was inaugurated in 1963, the architect and author of the design was Rui Calafate but the bronze plaque containing an effigy of Elísio da Nova was created by sculptor Lagoa Henriques.
