The museum was founded in 1977 in Cupra Marittima in order to publicly display the grand collection of shells by Tiziano and Vincenzo. It took its first steps with provisional locations and organizing exhibitions in several cities of Italy and the creation of an educational museum for primary schools in Cupra Marittima.
