O'Connell Street

O'Connell Street is the main street of Limerick. It's a one-way street for cars and the central point of the city for pedestrians. There's everything you need to go shopping, to find somewhere to eat or to go out at night. Previously known as George's Street, it now bears the name of Daniel O'Connell. O'Connell was a politician, known as "the liberator" who fought for the rights of Catholics. He fought particularly for their right to be represented in parliament, at that time in London, because Ireland was part of the United Kingdom, and the deputies voted in London.
