1 review of Plum Orchard

Tiffany Lamps, exquisite wood work and extreme richness from a bygone era.

The twin tortoise shell Tiffany Lamps hanging in the study in the Plum Orchard Mansion on Cumberland Island are only a small piece of the extreme beauty and glimpses into the history of a bygone era. A 20,000 square foot mansion that includes 125 rooms plus an indoor swimming pool. It has been restored by the park service and includes period furnishings throughout the home as well.

Built by Lucy Carnegie for her son George Lauder Carnegie this gilded age mansion is well worth the trip north on Cumberland Island. Cars are not allowed on the island so the only way to arrive to the mansion is by foot or bike. Another option is to sign up for a tour of the island through the park service when scheduling your ferry ride over.
