Rifugio Enrico Rossi alla Pania

Rifugio at the foot of the evocatively...

Rifugio at the foot of the evocatively named "Uomo morte" dead man mountain in the Apuane Alps. This historic Rifugio consists of a one room hut divided into two parts, one part containing 22 bunk beds and the other the kitchen and eating area. In the middle is a ceramic wood stove which provides the heat. There is a debate as to whether it should be a renovated but currently it stands as a testament to a time when travel was harder and many places were truly remote from civilization. The trail to the summit of Pania Secca starts at the Rifugio. If you are lucky you may encounter mouflon, but watch out they like to kick rocks on your head.
