Symbolic

Brasov is a Transylvanian Saxon town, which means it's a German community that settled there centuries ago. As in other Saxon cities, other nationalities were prohibited from living inside the protective city walls. There was a large Romanian community living in this prairie long before the Saxons, and they had to move to the periphery of the city, to the Schei neighbourhood. You can get there by the symbolic "Schei Gate", which was built in 1827 to delineate the two neighbourhoods. There's also the beautiful Caterina door from the 16th century. You can really see the differences between the houses here and the large Saxon houses in the medieval centre.
