Monument to Savonarola
In the square of the same name, you can admire the statue of the great Girolamo Savonarola. He was excommunicated by Pope Alexander VI, accused of heresy, and was hanged and burned in 1497. After some of his theological works were reevaluated by the church, the Archdiocese of Florence began a campaign to have him beatified in 1997.
