Manakula Vinayagar Temple

1 review of Manakula Vinayagar Temple

Popular pilgrimage site

It is a popular pilgrimage site, and there are reports of its existence before the French colonisation, ie before 1666. The temple is dedicated to Lord Ganesh, one of the best known Indian gods, the son of Shiva. The lower shrine is dedicated to Lord Murugan, the younger brother of Ganesh. Inside there is a wall with 40 pictures of Ganesh, the elephant-headed god. This temple can see up to 5000 visitors a day! Outside is a covered alley (thank goodness because it started to rain cats and dogs), just in front of the temple there are many stalls that sell all kinds of things, mainly flowers for different ceremonies.
