An unforgettable experience

In the Inner Delta of the Niger the Peul people (pastors) and the Bozo (fishermen) settle on its shores. From Mopti, the reference city for trade and fishing for these people, we took a pinnace for a ride along the unforgettable Niger. Our destination was Gomi, a Peul village which has a large mosque which, despite its appearance in the distance, is quite modern and is built with concrete. It was not this that interested me, but the encounter with the inhabitants, mostly women and children (the men would be out with livestock). We were greeted with great joy, happiness, and with open arms ... children were eager to play with us, to see the pictures that we took of them on the camera screen (making us show them over and over again), taking us by the hand as we walked the streets or went to the esplanade next to the shore (a constant sight in many parts of Africa, children are scrambling to hold your hand and walk with you as well ...
