This lively city retains a remarkable old town, on the slope of a hill crowned by Atalaya Castle (which was built by the Arabs and has an impressive tower). It also has two Gothic churches: Santa Maria - built on the old mosque, and Santiago - a national monument with amazing columns. Nearby is City Hall and a sixteenth century which houses the Archaeological Museum José María Soler (who found a treasure of silver and gold pieces from the Bronze Age). There's also an interesting museum dedicated to the famous "Moors and Christians" festival held in early September.
