Lamin Lodge is a wooden restaurant built over the water with monkeys hanging around and grabbing all the attention. To get there, we took a narrow and colorful engine boat and crossed the mangroves (one of the few plants that thrives in salt water). You can dine while a musician plays the Kora and composes traditional verses about what´s happening in that moment. Gambia has an important artistic tradition in which, for centuries, musicians and singers preserve the history and identity of its people through the sung stories of families and clans. Keep in mind that the tradition of writing is not very old, so these songs have been crucial in keeping the history alive.
