Although listed in many guidebooks, and word of mouth,, it stands out as the best food on the island, we found it more than acceptable. The place is integrated into the setting of buildings that make up the entrance to the temple of Pura Saraswati Saman, and there is no better place to enjoy the food and the views of the lotus pond and temple than the table we were offered. The service was very fast and efficient and the portions more than enough to share. We have to keep in mind, that oriental food digests quite fast, so within notime you will be hungry again. Bintang frosts, accompany the series of dishes we ordered to share and get a general idea of the cuisine. One of the dishes is like tapas, a selection of thinks to nibble on, called Makanan Ringan, made up of of Lemper (rice and chicken), Sambal Udang (Spicy Prawns), Pepes Ikan (fish cooked in banana leaf ), Tumis Terung (sauteed eggplant) Bergedel Tahu (tofu fried dumplings) and Rojak (fruit pickled Bali style) then followed with Sisit Ayam, chicken breast marinated with lodeh sayur (vegetables cooked with coconut milk) and slightly cooked rice. To finish Kambing Sate Lilit, lamb skewers seasoned with grilled Balinese spices, coconut chips, vegetables, Balinese rice and sambal, which is the sauce. The price is not high, but not low either. Having something to eat in the street usually cosst around 2 euros. Because it a touristy place, it costs about 16 euros per person.It was definitely worth the money.
This is a unique place in Bali where you can partake in delicious food, tapas tasting either poolside while sunbathing on deck chairs and bales of design or elegant dining in the la carte retaurant. At night, the pool transforms into a terrace where you can live it up with the best cocktails and the best atmosphere of the moment in the "Island of the Gods". It;s one of the newest and exclusive corners of Bali!
If you go to Bali, I highly recommend you stay at the Four Seasons where you can enjoy wonderful facilities and personalized service. There are also great sea views to be enjoyed from the villa. The hotel has several restaurants, and one of them is PJ's, an elegant "restaurant-stall" on the beach, where you can grab a seafood throughout the day, and a drink at night, accompanied by the sound of the sea and live music. Lunch is from 11 am to 6 pm, and at night you can enjoy dinner by candlelight or have a drink in a Balinese bed. I personally recommend you have lunch while taking advantage of the sunshine on the beach, and at night, it's best to go to one of the bars that are a few meters away, outside the hotel, where they serve delicious seafood. Great value.
Hidden in Ubud's shopping district, this is a charming place where you can sip a good cocktail, talk with the local Balinese and discover the best part of Bali. Although it's romantic setting for a drink, they also serve lunch and dinner and have a music area at night to enjoy with friends. They have free wi-fi and pool tables. It's beautiful place and full of good people. MATUR SUKSEME!
This Indonesian restaurant has a simple policy: everything on sale is natural, without additives or chemicals. The dishes are tasty and the drinks - as natural as everything else - are refreshing and delicious. The view over the suburbs makes it worth visiting, too. An average dish costs between 35 and 45 rupees. Basically, you eat for between two and three euros. It is not expensive for the quality of the ingredients.
We were lucky that when we rented the villa, the wonderful hostess, apart from offering the rental car at a great price, included the possibility of having a private cook come with his assistant to the villa for a reasonable price (about 20 € per person). They presented us a feast of tasty and elegant dishes from the Balinese cuisine. We started with a delicate chicken vegetable soup and a delicious vegetable salad, kebabs with seasoned minced meat accompanied by a peanut and coconut sauce, aromatic and smooth rice, rice crackers and vegetable rolls, meat with a roasted pepper cilantro and garlic sauce, acar (pickled vegetables), and pickled soft tuna, and it ended with a delicious and heavenly black rice in coconut sauce, not to mention the delicious fresh fruit cut in filigree. It was a luxury being able to enjoy these delicacies at home, without haste and prepared by a skillful and professional cook.
The Amanda Beach Restaurant is a small oceanfront restaurant located near the port of Sanur. It's nothing fancy, but is located in the center of the port and has tasty fruit juices as well as pretty good western dishes. If you're looking for a break from Indonesian food, it's a good place to try. The club sandwich was enormous and delicious! Good service.
In my humble opinion, the Wayan cafe, located in the centre of Ubud, is one of the best restaurants in the region. The menu is rich, with delicious local food, and everything is good, from starters to desserts. The staff are charming and fluent in English, and the Baliense climate is inviting and welcoming.
To call it a fabulous place would be an understatement: I can't even begin to describe the magic of both of these restaurants. The Bulgari Resort in Bali is one of the most beautiful places I've ever seen, high on a cliff at Ulu Watu. Few people on the island seem to know about its presence, and admission is confidential. Reservations in both restaurants are a MUST. Book the dinner for two, for a special occasion that's really special. You will be served by your own exclusive waiter, with background music, and an area just for you, and sprinkled with rose petals. Seeing is believing, and I don't think I can really adequately describe it. The food is excellent and the price a little high, but I would say that it's fair since the service is great!
I have to admit that finding Sari Organik isn't very easy, but despite it being quite hidden, most locals are happy to help with directions. To get there you'll have to walk through the middle of the plantations, so be sure to bring sunscreen and a hat. When you get there, it comes as a surprise - in the middle of a rice paddy, with stunning views, delicious breezes, just a perfect spot. Everything is open, and you can sit on the bamboo benches with their colourful cushions, take off your shoes and relax. It's a good idea to make a reservation, as it's not very big. The restaurant has organic and healthy produce, and you can even pick your own vegetables in the garden. It's very cheap, too!
The Bunute didn't appear in any of our guides, and it wasn't recommended by anyone in particular - we just came across it one day, and the menu of Western options caught our eye. They offer pizzas and hamburgers, sandwiches and salads. The pizza is individual, but despite being a Western dish, has a bit of an Asian flavour. The burger is served with the traditional fries and barbecue sauce, and the sandwich was also delicious. The only thing I didn't like was the fruit juice, which was pretty watery and didn't have a great flavour. The Bunute has live music - when we went there was an Indonesian singing American songs, and he did it very well! The restaurant isn't too expensive, about R$20 for the food and drink plus 10% service.
This restaurant was opposite our hotel, so we decided to give it a go. The menu has everything from fish to pizza, and Asian-style burgers. In the photo, you can see a typical dish, fish skewers. The place is very nice, neat, clean and comfortable. As the Balinese don't speak much English (almost zero), the service can be a little difficult, but the food is good and tasty. At the back is a very beautiful lake. A delight.
We were walking through Jimbaran beach and went to eat in Roma, which was a very bad idea. The menu said: 180000rp/kilo for jumbo prawns, which amounted to 4 per person even though the waitress said they were 5 to the kilo. When the prawns arrived we found that the 4 prawns weighing, perhaps, a quarter of that, and they put 4.5 kilos in the bill. After we got a bit steamed they asked us how much we wanted to pay. Eventually, we calmed down and they lowered the bill, though not as much as we wanted. Not a place to go.
