As Erice is one of the most popular places in Siciliy, its prices tend to overwhelm you. We found this restaurant with a tourist menu for 13 euros so we thought we would give it a try. The menu consisted of an "antipasto", a main course (choice of lasagne, cannelloni or cous cous), and some pastries for dessert. The food was not bad at all, though the presentation of the dishes left much to be desired, so it's a place to get away, fill your stomach a bit without emptying your wallet too much. Despite the okay food, I loved the actual place. It is right on the Erice main street and is a two-story house. Downstairs there is a confectionery parlor (where you can also drink), the restaurant is housed on the top floor. It looked like a typical Sicilian house with its living room, a comfy sofa, typical tables and typical cupboards... and best of all: a terrace with spectacular views across the town and coast.
Rumored to be the finest pasticeria in Sicily. Walking through the door is a trip back in time.
The shop is dedicated to the production of traditional cakes and sweets, they don't even serve coffee.
Many of the cakes have intriguing names, my favorites were "paradise cake" and "mother-in-law tongues".
If you want to try the archetypal Sicilian cannolo this is the place to visit.
A thin and crispy tube stuffed with creamy sweetened ricotta cheese. Beware very moreish.
