Have a beer in a remote cove on the Atlantic, lost under a palm tree. That is what awaits you if you dare to go down in the elevator that leads to the restaurant Faja dos Padres, in the secluded area of Rivera Brava. A simple restaurant that serves dishes with food from their own gardens, that you can even take a stroll through. If you go there, try something made from the fruit, vegetables, and fresh local fish. I really liked the avocado vinaigrette, a very easy thing to do at home, but it tastes much better if you are vacationing by the ocean. Faja dos Padres' bar is also a hotel. If you want, you can spend a few nights there, isolated from the world, only sunbathing, having a dip, and napping in the shade of a banana tree. Who wouldn't?!
The Best restaurant in Porto Moniz, it looks from the outside like it's going to be expensive, but I recommend you go and take a look at the menu. For less than 60 €, all 3 of us ate, and all morning there were visitors. Delicious swordfish, dreamy salads and desserts. I'll leave you a photo of the view.
This restaurant in Funchal is very close to the cathedral and market. It is a very good value. I recommend that you order the € 35 menu for dinner which includes a starter, main course, dessert, wine (good quality for menu) dessert and coffee.
For a very well priced and tranquil dinner, this is one of the best places to have dinner in Funchal. It is a little outside the typical tourist circuit where they overcharge you, really very very good value for money, I was in several places and this is the place that I recommend the most.
The caco is not used to make a sandwich, no. You do not open the bread and fill it. The bolus is bread made with garlic oil, "preñao" of sausage or bacon. They are inside. A really nice couple prepares a stall on the pavement. Easy to find for two reasons: it is central and you can smell it from afar. The sausage is not exactly of Salamanca and if you get hiccups, get rid of them with a beer. No Michelin stars, if that's worries you.
When we see a restaurant with balcony, the higher it is the better. It comes from the years when we did climbing I suppose. The restaurant, with an unblemished image. The food, which bases it's dishes on fish, and has endless servings of potatoes, is extraordinary. The size of the "room" was not luxurious, but the girl who took our order, even though we had to keep on moving our back packs, didn't stop smiling at any point. And it was not raining.
In a small street between the cathedral and the town hall, I was struck by the tasteful packaging and ice cream service. There are tropical fruit flavours available that are local to the island. A small counter facing the street serves ice cream, which saves time from sitting inside.
For a 'high' meal, there's nothing better than the Uva restaurant. The 'height' is guaranteed, as the restaurant is on the fourth floor level, on the rooftop of the beautiful 5* Vine Hotel, in the center of Funchal. Here you can try traditional Madeiran dishes with high quality ingredients, as well as international Japanese and Italian dishes. I had sushi and the fish of the day, which was very tasty and well-presented. For dessert, I decided on something super sweet, as I always have dessert whenever the opportunity arises. The service is impeccable, according to the category of the place, as the hotel is on the up, its very nice and bright. If you can, have an after-meal drink on the terrace, and sometimes they let you put your feet in the hot tub.
We found it by mistake, and was a success. The courtyard is quiet with many flowers and orchids. They offered dishes for € 7.90: Swordfish with banana, rib roast, roast chicken or octopus. Only one dish, but enough to calm stomachs, they are served with abundance and a rich dish. We also tested the menu, for 15 € you get a first, second and dessert, but no bread or drinks. First we choose a salad buffet, so it's impossible to be hungry. The only bad thing is that a water bottles are 3.5 €. It was so rich, we repeated eating there two days of our stay in Funchal!
There's nothing better than a beer, a soda or iced tea to help you catch your breath at Mirador Eira do Serrado. If you like you can drink it right there, a thousand feet high, in the Panoramic Restaurant of the same name (it's the only one there) where you can drink in or on your deck outside, depending on the weather. If you fancy eating at the panoramic restaurant, they have a lot of dishes, displayed on their menu board (although the photos do not look particularly tempting). They also sell ice cream, which is a safe bet as it is fresh.
Do Forte is a classy restaurant, the kind where dinner begins with champagne, and is entertained by a violinist. It has rather large servings, but is a place to impress. Go if you like luxury. The experience is very nice, with flowing drinks, cutlery etc. This corresponds to a swanky site. I ordered a prawn starter, 'frango' (chicken) with vegetables and rice as a main course. It was very good, but there could have been more generous portions. Dessert managed to fill this small gap, and in the end, the perfect dinner ended, providing a sweet Madeira wine, and I'm hoping that fate will soon bring me back to Funchal.
After a week in Funchal, Madeira, we found a place to eat that is spectacular! In the marina (port), you can only find frozen fish for the simple fact that the restaurants buy a lot of the seafood and keep it frozen. In the place we ate a serving of swordfish with cooked vegetables as a garnish and drank white wine and coffee for €40 and with very good service! Like being at home.
A magical place where a mixture of good taste, details, good attention, the best sweets, variety in fast food, soft drinks and the best rich coffee with the lowest prices and the best quality. It's in Funchal Rua dos Neto No. 58 - Pastelaria Netos Palace.
How about a coffee to differ, as a change from the history of Madeira? Take advantage, and before leaving Story Centre, order a coffee in Story Café. You'll find it at the end of their gift shop, with which it is nearly seamless. There, you can enjoy a hot drink packed with some of the typical Portuguese sweetness. Now, it is curious that, in addition to items made in Madeira, they also have international ones. If you want a Scottish shortbread, this is your place! If you prefer, you can also order something heavier, like a sandwich. Also, there are sweets to nibble on. Not the cheapest place on the island, but affordable nonetheless.
This little bar-restaurant gives you the opportunity to literally eat finger foods. It's like sitting on the stage of a theater, where the stage is formed by the crystal clear water and fine beach stone. They are testing the PA system: are the feasts of the Virgin of Light, and it sounds like the Eagles Hotel California. It's just you and your partner. There are few really special moments in life and this is one of them. The icing on the cake, they put two beautiful fish dishes and a bottle of Muralhas of MONÇÃO on your table. The site in a bit tight in terms of space, but with everything I have described, you barely even notice. I do not know if it is open, because given the situation, there was a seating problem. Can you believe it? You have to see the photos.
