Cafés in San Francisco
The Cheesecake Factory
(6)
This is a popular place in San Francisco for a snack. They have typical American food, of course, but the most popular order are the cheesecakes. They're spectacular! Expensive and huge, but spectacular nonetheless. Treat yourself to one and you'll see what I mean. It's a chain, but this is the flagship one, in the heart of Union Square and with great views at the top. The Cheesecake Café is across from Union Square on top of the Macys. It has a fantastic terrace that allows you to see the city from above. Yes, it's always full of tourists and usually on the chilly side on the terrace.

Hard Rock Cafe San Francisco
(4)
Yes, this may not be the most beautiful Hard Rock Cafe in the world, but it's not bad. The best thing about it is it´s atmosphere. Pier 39 is one of the most lively in the city. For music-lovers, they say that they have the late Kurt Cobain's guitar on display.

Fish & Farm - Restaurant y Bar

We arrived by chance (it's pretty complicated to eat out on Saturday night in San Francisco without reservations) and were really surprised by such a cool place for dinner. We were very lucky because even though we did wait about around 15 minutes (yes, with a beer at the bar), they ended up putting us in one of the private rooms perfect for a group of 10 or 12 people. The restaurant is also pretty close to Union Square. My recommendation: the meat, which was spectacular, and the wine list is good too.

Fishermen's Grotto Restaurant

This restaurant is on the San Francisco pier. You can eat giant crabs straight from San Francisco Bay at a great price. We did not have much time, so I ordered a crab to take-away, and we ate it on the pier, watching the jealous seagulls. It was quite a fun experience and it comes highly recommended!

Dante's Weird Fish
(1)
A very original vegetarian restaurant located in the area of The Mission. It is an ideal place to eat things which are somewhat rare but exquisite. Fish in the form of tacos, the original fish and chips ... It´s a highly-recommended place for those that want to try new things. It´s not cheap, but for about 20 euros you can eat excellently. It´s one of those places that you only find if someone tells you about it, but which you will remember forever!!

E & O Trading Company

Behind this strange name is one of the most recommended restaurants. On the way to Chinatown, in downtown San Francisco, lies this place that draws your attention from outside for its spectacular decor. Once inside, it does not disappoint. Fusion Asian cuisine is served, but still modern. It's a spectacular place that I loved. If you're near Union Square and you're hungry, do not hesitate to eat here.

Café de la Presse

Next to the Chinatown entrance in San Francisco on Grant Street, we discovered a gorgeous Parisian-style cafe on a sunny afternoon in late June. Just like Mrs. Dalloway, I wanted to capture everything around me - the waiter's complacent smile that was ready to fill the coffee cups and water glasses (there's no ice, the water comes in an old glass soda bottle). A yellow sports car was parked near the entrance. There were voices with accents from all over the world. There are so many things to entertain: you can look around, dine at candlelit tables, buy magazines, daily newspapers, bread, sweets. It is a curious American blend, a French twist in the most interesting Chinatown of the West Coast. Green Pea Project, a blog for the Five Senses http://www.guisanteverdeproject.com

Farley´s Café
(1)
Farley's is a nice cafe in Potrero Hill where a friend of mine from San Francisco took me. It has a warm, friendly, and homely atmosphere. It's the opposite of what is usually dull monotony in other chain coffee shops like Starbucks. In Farley's, there's everything from children's drawings to hand-written ads on the wall, and they have wi-fi so a lot of young people come here to use it and have a coffee. Definitely a very nice and interesting atmosphere. The coffee, by the way, is excellent

Squat & Gobbles
(3)
Squart and Gobbles restaurant/cafe on Haight Street (the main street in what is basically considered San Francisco's hippie neighborhood) was a great find: entrees for $ 10 or a tad more, a relaxed atmosphere, and a nice outdoor area behind the restaurant. The food: savory and sweet crepes, pasta, sandwiches, and a variety of salads. Drinks: homemade lemonade, among other things. I discovered later that the owners opened a couple of other restaurants around town, but I have not tried any yet! Bon appétit!

Rain Forest Café San Francisco
(2)
There are Rainforest Cafes is many cities around the US, but I visited the one in San Francisco. At first, I thought it was a store, but when we entered we found a whole jungle with a huge restaurant on the second floor. The shop is already super-cool and has t-shirts with prints of animals and pets for children. The cafe was also an experience. The whole place is lined with artificial plants and "storms" happen during your meal where the sky changes color before clearing up into stars and the sounds of crickets. Besides the cool environment, the food is extremely good though I'd advise ordering dishes to share as the portions are huge! The smoothies are also worth a try.

Philz Coffee
(1)
We were wondering around the neighborhood and decided to stop along the way for coffee. We stopped at Philz because we liked the atmosphere...it was basically a quiet place with a few people enjoying their coffee while surfing the internet. The staff was very friendly and even gave us some restaurant recommendations in the local area. Very good and good price.

Crab House at Pier 39
(1)
A very good place to eat seafood, there were two of us and we ordered a double shrimp & double crab (double hot shrimp and a whole crab) with a Caesar salad and a bottle of white wine. We were filled up to the brim and it ended up costing us $ 100
Cafés in San Francisco
Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf
(4)
I found this place that had seemed so peculiar but is actually part of a franchise the Coffee Bean located on Market Street. Among comfy leather sofas , and modern wooden tables, this is the perfect place to relax, read the paper, check your email (if you bring your laptop there is free wifi), or simply enjoy a good coffee. Located just steps from one of the famous Starbucks Coffee's, Coffee Bean is serious competition , with its wide selection of teas, and the usual wide selection in the United States' cafes of all kinds. An interesting alternative to Starbucks!

Pancho Villa Taquería
(1)
If you like Mexican food, I recommend a stop at Pancho Villa Taqueria. My friend Julian took us there for lunch and I found it delicious and not at all expensive. The restaurant itself is roomy though the decor is rather sparse and unappealing. But the food is scrumptious and even better when washed down with an icy Corona! One of the most interesting things about San Francisco's neighborhoods are the different ethnic groups, each with their own shops and traditional restaurants. Pancho Villa is in the Mission District, known locally as "The Mission", whose name comes from the San Francisco de Asis Mission, the oldest building in San Francisco. All in all, a great place to go for delicious burritos.

Swiss Louis Italian & Seafood Restaurant
(2)
Pier 39 has it all. Souvenir stores, bakeries, and top-tier restaurants. Swiss Louis is one of them. They mainly serve seafood and pasta and have some of the fastest servers I've ever seen (even amidst the tourist masses of Pier 39). I ordered any my food was on the table in less than 10 minutes! Great place if you're hungry in a hurry! The dishes were well-presented and delicious. It was worth every penny! The bread was fresh and warm like it had just come out of the oven. The restaurant has has big windows so you can see the sea lions as you eat.

Swan Oyster Depot
(1)
The Swan Oyster Depot is a popular little restaurant among San Francisco locals. The photos that adorn the walls of the small place indeed attest to their historic success, and I noticed that many of the waiters still serving appeared in the old black and white photos. You usually have to wait in a long line to get served as there is only a bar with stools and short menu hung on the walls. You file through and pick up your order of shrimp, oysters, crab, octopus, or fish soup, all served fresh. I have to admit that the place is expensive: a small cocktail shrimp in tomato sauce (7 shrimp in total) came out to $14! And that's not including drinks. But the bread is delicious, and the flavors and atmosphere are unbeatable.

Dosa on Fillmore
We knew Dosa was going to be an Indian restaurant but we had no idea that the word Dosa is actually a South Indian dish! A dosa is like a crepe made from rice and lentils and then served with lamb or vegetables. We ordered a wide variety of dosas so got to try a bit of everything. Be sure to prepare yourself though...I consider myself a fan of spicy food but a lot of these were incredibly hot. The crepe bar is the only thing to but the spice, but it's huge and delicious. It's not cheap, but you won't feel like you were robbed afterwards either. Good Sake cocktails.
