Hard Rock Cafe Indianapolis
The Indianapolis Hard Rock Cafe is located right in front of the hotel we stayed at during our visit last summer. It was so close that from our room we could connect to their WLAN with our laptop. The signal was indeed weak. It occupies the ground floor of a historic building and its location is central to the city. My visit was very brief, under the pretext of having a beer while my family was shopping. If found the Hard Rock Cafe similar to all the others: wood paneling with rock paraphernalia adorning the walls. The cuisine is the same everywhere but the bar had been under pressure to stock local brands, so I could drink Blue Moon, which I love. The place was smaller than others in the chain, and wasn't too busy when I was there. Of course, I'm used to Hard Rock Barcelona. The service is young and brash. The music is commercial rock, MTV style, with the classic variation. If you are in downtown Indianapolis, the Hard Rock is a good alternative if you don't want to try new things. Times are set to the American Midwest. Within a hundred meter radius, there are other restaurants with similar prices.
Restaurants in Indianapolis
Champps
Champps is a restaurant in the Circle Centre Mall, a large shopping center in the historic Wholesale District of Indianapolis. It's part of a chain of restaurants, sort of like a Hard Rock Cafe, but based on sports instead of music. We decided to go here rather than the nearby Hard Rock, because my son is more interested in sports than music, and the revolves around local teams and there are a lot of screens showing live games. The food is what you might expect: burgers, sandwiches, salads and Tex-Mex, all served in generous portions. It was good, but nothing to write home about. The prices are a bit high, but like the Hard Rock, you pay for the experience as well as the food. It has a terrace, but we ate indoors (air conditioning). At night, it looks nice all lit up.
Restaurants in South Bend
LePeep
A good place to enjoy an American breakfast with eggs, sausage and bacon. To be accompanied by something sweet, I recommend the "French Toast". The place also has a small terrace where you can catch a bit of the sun in the morning, always appreciated!
Restaurants in Oak Park
Winberries
I grew up and was born in Oak Park. This restaurant has helped me celebrate birthdays, baptisms, weddings, and the life of those lost after funerals. Winberries has the atmosphere of Oak Park in one building. Oak Park is reminiscent of the family big city life which is much more than your typical suburb, but it also feels very close to family as well. This is how Winberries feels as well. We brought our 4 and 5 year old there this weekend. Not only is Winberries across from the beautiful Scoville Park, where many congregate and gather, but it also is in the heart of the "downtown" area. They are a little bit on the pricier side, but it is well worth it! The kids got delicious and creative meals with dinosaur shaped chicken nuggets and a big pizza, but ALSO ice cream after! We grown ups, had very satisfying meals as well. I had a tuna salad sandwich which was huge and very filling (your typical American sandwich) and my man got a Pork Jambalaya! He said it was the best meal he has had at a restaurant in a long time. I am pretty certain that he licked the plate while I wasn't looking. Like I said you could easily take the kids here and come for a casual beer and dinner AND the inside is fancy and beautiful so after event socials could also take place here. Winberries is definitely a gem of Oak Park!
