Kokai Thai Bistro
I went to Thai Kokai 4 months ago, when a workmate invited me to eat there with him. Since then, being so close to my work, it has become a regular place to go if you're in a hurry, but want to eat well. It's situated in a shopping district where most of the shops are Asian. The dishes are plentiful and local, without design, it's nice. It has a dining area and a terrace. Among its cuisine worth noting there are spring rolls, rice, noodles and soups, with the accompanying spicy meat, seafood and chicken. There are soft drinks and Thai beers available. It costs around $15 per person which is about 12€. They accept credit cards and there is always ample parking.
Restaurants in Saint Paul
El Burrito Mercado
Wondering where to buy your favorite flan or tamales? Or perhaps you're about to make an authentic Latin meal- El Burrito Mercado had what you need- from plantains to tomatillos to chicken feet and chorizos, it's all there and fresh as can be! You can even buy a piñata and freshly made salsas here! The Burrito Mercado restaurant has on site seating or take the food to go. Sopas, tostadas, fajitas (shrimp fajitas pictured) and so much more. Prices are great and the food is phenomenal! Make sure to get the jalapeños in vinegar as a topping on your meal- it adds just that little hint of spice and flavor!

The Buttered Tin
Brunches, pastries, soups, and sandwiches and so much more is what you'll get when you eat at The Buttered Tin in lowertown Saint Paul. Just a block up from Mears Park it's an easy to find restaurant that is incredibly popular. Weekends after the farmer's market are a great time to go, but expect to have an hour's wait to be seated. It'll be worth it for the experience. The short rib reuben, pictured, with flash pickled cucumbers is a favorite. Make sure to grab the siracha sauce for an extra bite of flavor. The homemade twinkles are a must. If you are going for breakfast try the huevos rancheros benedict or the biscuits and gravy.

Foxy Falafel
If you're interested in getting a phenomenal vegetarian meal in St Paul, Foxy Falafel is the place to go. Foxy Falafel started out as a hit food truck that quickly gained a following that now echoes in the steady crowd of visitors to this little hole in the wall joint off of Raymond Street. Order your falafels as a salad, sandwich or platter. The falafels come in beet, curry or regular flavors. Not sure which you want? Get all three in your platter or sandwich to get the full effect. Grab the pickle plate or stuffed grape leaves for a tasty appetizer treat! Note: they do sell gyros and chi ken schwarmas at Foxy, so for the non-vegetarians there is something wonderful for you to eat too!

Marshwatch Farms
Fresh eggs, honey, vegetables or anything else this farm has plenty! You can take advantage of the good eats that this family run farm produces either through a CSA (community supported agriculture) or by stopping as you drive by to grab whatever is fresh at the moment. Whether you need basil or eggs for a last minute pasta dish that you're whipping up or if it's in your daily routine they're always open to sell fresh foods. If you're lucky you could also get on the list for a broiler chicken- organically raised its far better tasting than any chicken you'd get at the local supermarket- something worth asking about for sure!
Restaurants in Spicer
A fixture in the community of Spicer this is the place to be on a warm summer's evening after a day at one of the local beaches! Bloody Marys are rather blah, but they do a good job with the toppings. Burgers and sandwiches are where they excel- if you really want to step up the ingredients order the poutine fries as an appetizer. French fries slathered in cheese, gravy and bacon it's an instant win (and perhaps cardiac arrest)! They also serve pizza- good crusts but heavy on the cheese and minimal on the rest of the ingredients so you're better off ordering one of their creatively topped burgers. Summer is the busy season in Spicer so you may have to wait for a table depending on time of day. Good news is that there is also an outdoor patio so there should be space.
Cafés in Mankato
Wine Cafe
Stop into the Wine cafe for a glass of wine, a bottle with friends (over 150 wines,70+ imported and domestic beers, and a full service bar.) or just a quick bite to eat. There is a full menu for lunch and dinner. Stop in midday and take advantage of their lunch specials- if you search online you can usually come up with an additional coupon to make your dining experience that much cheaper (not recommended if on a first date!) Not sure how you feel about wine and want to learn more? Once a month they host a wine tasting for $10 that will help give you an idea of what flavors and types of wine you prefer. (They do require reservations for this event). Two large spaces make up this wine cafe and bar. The back area can be rented out for parties of up to 40, but can also make for a great area to wine and dine if you're just interested in escaping from the rest of the bar. An outside patio is available as well. Open Monday through Sunday from 11 am until 2 am. Live music and entertainment on the weekends, usually with two different bands playing on Saturday nights. Enjoy or participate in the karaoke every Thursday night starting at 9pm
Restaurants in Eagan
Hoban Korean Restaurant
What is your favorite Korean food? Is it the steaming Bibimbap served in a hot porcelain bowl? Or one of the different choices of bulgogi perhaps? Well Hoban Restaurant has all of those and more. Several different choices of Kimchee, from bean sprouts, to potatoes to your standard napa cabbage kimchee, are served to you after you order, and they will even replenish them if you eat one completely. Enjoy all your favorite Korean foods at Hoban Restaurant in Eagan. Hoban is one of the best Korean restaurants in the state of Minnesota it's in an easy-to-find location (just off of Highway 13- located at the end of a strip mall). They have very friendly wait staff. Soju, the Korean liquor of choice, is not on the menu, but if you ask for it they have it and will bring you some. Plus, after you enjoy your meal of Dolsat Bibimbap you can walk across the hall to Do-Re-Mi and enjoy some true Korean Karaoke! Not sure what you want to order? If you stop in to eat during the work week they also have a lunch buffet that you can enjoy. Try a little bit of everything!
Restaurants in Grand Marais
Crooked Spoon Cafe
Walking through the small town of Grand Marais in northern Minnesota you wouldn't expect to find such a vast array of extremely delicious restaurants- but they're there. The Crooked Spoon Cafe is one of the best- with an ever changing menu- dependent on the season and available ingredients- you will never be disappointed in your meal. Stop in for just drinks and an appetizer-- in spring/summer of 2015 they will also be opening a rooftop bar to take advantage of their fantastic location on the Grand Marais Harbor, as well as to showcase their great wine selection. They serve lunches all winter long, and can be a great place for a break from the cold. In the summer expect to have a considerable wait. They won't take reservations and tables are on a first come, first serve basis. It's worth the wait though, so stick around! Pictured is Pork Belly Lettuce Wraps with Dill Pickle Chips and a Bean Chili - perfect meals for the cold winter days.

Sven & Ole's
Sven and Ole's is one of the best and most popular pizza places in the entire state of Minnesota. The pizza is phenomenal- order to go, or to stay or even buy a frozen pizza to take home (their crust and sauce are delicious and well worth the frozen option when you're short on time!) For a true up north experience grab their creatively named Vild Vone. Their Vild Vone pizza includes wild rice on it! Come during Wednesday lunch for their buffet and try a piece of everything! Not to mention the vivid décor of the dining room- head busts of animals, old outdoor sports gear- you name it, they have it! A truly unique experience and well worth the visit.
Cafés in Minneapolis
Espresso Royale Caffe
Grab the green tea matcha latte and grab a seat next to one of the large windows in the front of this cafe for a afternoon of work, internet surfing or just relaxing with a steaming hot cup of joe. The front of the house has terrific light, high ceilings and a friendly atmosphere. There are also seats in the very back of the coffee shop, but they don't get the nice natural light. That area tends to be more dark and less welcoming- which could be great if you're just trying to escape people- so a little bit of everything for everyone. A wide variety of choices for hot beverages- several hot tea lattes types that I had never heard of or seen, which is a fun treat. There are always various options for different pastries available too- so grab something that sounds delicious to you Note: the bathrooms in this shop leave a lot to be desired so not worth the stop if you're just looking for that.
Restaurants in Lake Crystal
Preri Bach Saloon & Grill
Located in the tiny town of Cambria, MN this bar and grill is definitely a hole in the wall whose food is well worth the visit. The atmosphere is that of a small town bar - comfortable and homey in that way that places that have been around for forever tend to get. Don't be surprised if everyone turns their heads to look at you when you walk in- they're just curious to see if they know you- as it'd be rude not to greet a neighbor if they walked in and you did not notice! Their one pound cambria burger is a local legend- cooked to delicious perfection and don't forget to order a side of the onion rings. You'll regret it if you don't. They are, hands down, the very best onion rings in the entire state of Minnesota, if not the USA! Perfectly battered with a large slice of onion going through and then quickly fried they make for a great appetizer while you wait for your burger (if it's busy the wait can be awhile). They don't have a true liquor license so only sell cheap, low proof beer, but you can bring in your own alcohol. Order a soda mix to go along with anything you bring in and make it a great neighborly bar experience.

World's Best Donuts
Hand's down these truly are the world's best donuts. Any weekend in the summer there is a line that winds way down the block and back- and they run out quickly, so get there early to grab your donuts before they run out! The choices are amazing and it's hard to choose just one- from the regular cake donuts to maple frosted beauties to anything with chocolate to apple fritters- all of your favorite sweet breakfast donuts all in one place. Grab them to go or take them to a table- inside or out- to enjoy the meal while you watch the crowds ebb and flow for their morning donut treat. Note: In the winter time World's Best Donuts is not open, so don't plan on stopping any time from October to May.

Nong's Thai Cuisine
Located off the beaten path in a small strip mall, Nong's is well worth the stop - the service is exceptional and friendly. Their meal specials are great- pictured is their shiitake and ginger with pork and fried tofu special. Depending on your heat tolerance you can get the food at different levels of spice- mild being the lowest and Thai hot the spiciest. I ordered mine hot and it was absolutely perfect- gets the sinuses working and will wake you up, but not so much that you can't enjoy the flavor of the meal. Hours are 11 to 9 every day of the week and expect to pay about $12 for a regular meal plus tip.
Restaurants in Mankato
Swing by for a breakfast cinnamon roll- the most popular in Mankato, or grabs sound and panini sandwich on your lunch break. You can get it to go to enjoy back at work or at the nearest park, or grab one of the four tables inside to people watch as you enjoy the flavors. My favorite soup is a flavorful Mix that includes ginger and chicken broth, among many other vegetables! Started as a bakery they sell loaves of bread and other great specialty loaves. They will also make special order cakes or large orders of other sweets.
Restaurants in Mankato
La Terraza
Mexican food in an upscale setting. Chips and salsa served the minute you sit down and great service the whole time. The food is somewhat mediocre, too many tortilla chips in the tortilla soup and unimpressive quesadillas, but it's got a great patio space and an extensive menu of different types of margaritas. The indoor part of the restaurant is nice and clean, but a bit dark - so maybe a good spot for a date!!?
Restaurants in Champlin
Bauer Berry Farm
The blueberries are just starting to ripen up for the season (typically ripen around fourth of July weekend). Definitely an experience worth having as freshly picked berries are so much better than anything you can buy in the store- Sweet and tart flavors combine nicely. As a recommendation I would say that it's a good idea to pick three times the amount of berries that you'll need. Allow the berries to sit over night and ripen and then take the berries that you won't be eating or using in the next 3 to 5 days and freeze them (or make jam) so that you can enjoy their flavors all year round straight from the convenience of your house! (Frozen berries make great additions to cereal and oatmeal and cook perfectly in a pie or muffin...)

Hot Indian Food
What originally started out as a food truck became a highly successful restaurant in the heart of Minneapolis. Serving some amazingly delicious Indian food. It's not hard to see why it's been so wildly popular- with a myriad of flavors- including sweet and spicy and cooling and smooth all in a single bite. Follow their food truck on Facebook or twitter to know where they will be next or stop into their restaurant. Or if you're in the Target Field stadium stop by their cart on the main floor and grab a bite to enjoy while watching the Twins play some baseball- it's the healthiest food option in the entire stadium and won't leave you feeling hungry like a lot of the food options there.
