During our stay in Merida, I decided to enter the commercial center of Av de Portugal that was near our hotel. We opted for the restaurant "Pacomeralgo" because they accepted checks and for the stunning decoration. We found it very original and the menu was not limited to Italian food as we had previously thought it would be. There was homemade pizzas, barbecue pizza, the most popular were the Calzzone (from what I regret not having ordered). The portions are massive and very tasty, just looking at the desserts you can see what they look like. Again. The next day we returned to dinner, I ordered a burger, a change from last night's pizza, it was large and succulent, with all the trimmings. Customer treatment was very friendly they even switched on the TV so we could watch the game.
Locals say it is the best pizzeria in Merida, a city where there are hundreds of pizza shops because it is a college town and everyone knows that pizza is one of the best foods when one doesn´t feel like cooking. I don´t know if they are the best, but the one I had, the special Cheos one, was lovely. They use the grill instead of the oven, and that gives them a special flavor to set them apart from the rest.
Las 20 Truchas is in one of Merida's nightlife areas, where there are many restaurants. It is specialized in different varieties of trout: fried, made into pies, roasted, grilled, with garlic, stuffed, etc. It also has a grill for steaks. The name itself says it all, there are 20 different varieties of prepared trout, which is usually larger than the European. Special Trout comes with a wine mushroom sauce that is delicious, and other varieties which are recommended are trout with garlic or trout with seafood.
The Abbey Group has two restaurants in Merida, The Abbey and the Abbey's Angel, the latter is a house that is more than 50 years of age and was once renovated, adding the dramatic "Frida Kahlo" Indian room, "the balcony of the poets, "the room" of Ochum dream, the "attic portals of colonialness and Diego Rivera, with its huge, colorful mural" The creation of the world. It is a restaurant with a beautiful arts and crafts room. Situated on the edge of the road from Merida to Los Llanos, it is a colonial style house that combines a craft store, a showroom (which is in the garden) and a restaurant where it is said that you can eat well, however, when I arrived I was too late for lunch and too early for dinner.
Situated inside the Hotel Chama, it is a sushi bar with exquisite decor and reasonable prices for what is usually found in Japanese restaurants. Highlights in the menu are the sushi, the tempura, the Makis, and some Caribbean cuisines with plantain added to some of the dishes.
Arepas richest Merida! They are large and have various combinations that are delicious! The prices are quite affordable! Staff are great! The flavors are out of this world! One of the best places to breakfast in Merida, offering tamarind juices, strawberries, blackberries and other fruits. The typical Andean soup, la pizca, is highly recommended, made with egg, coriander and other delicious ingredients, apart from the arepas and the Andean cupcakes.
The Rosmarino is one of the cheapest options for dining in the Plaza of Heroines. It is a small, six table restaurant, nicely decorated with Italian colours. The pizzas cost 20 BG and the drinks are cheap.
The road from Merida to Barinas, narrow and with a lot of curves around the mountain, is full of barbecue restaurants with great views of the mountains. The Rancho Paraiso is one of the most recommended, with a wide variety of meats and grilled fish.
