    Melia Vendome hotel
The first time we stayed in Paris, it was at a little place in Montmartre which we would never have found if not for the bus which took us there from the airport. It was in the middle of a hill in a not-so-great neighborhood near Pigalle in the north of Paris. The second time, we stayed at Banlieu, located in a rather ugly industrial area. The only upside was that there was a metro stop nearby but it was still a pain getting to the center of the city. The last time, we were looking for a hotel close to Ópera and found this place. It’s very nice and, while a bit pricey, it’s worth it to spend a bit extra to really be able to enjoy the few days you’re spending in Paris. Otherwise, you’re sure to spend the same money on taxis!

Best Western Premier Opéra Faubourg (Ex Hotel Jules)
This hotel is on Rue Lafayette and straddles three very different Paris neighborhoods. On one side, you have the Ópera area where you can shop at the Galeries Lafayette. On the other side, you have Rue des Martyrs and its concentration of small, independent shops. Finally, you have the Grands Boulevards area where you’ll find theatres, cinemas, and some of the most beautiful covered galleries in the city. It’s close to the lines 7 and 12 of the metro. Although the hotel is on Rue Lafayette, don’t fret because the rooms are perfectly sound-proofed. The wi-fi works well (but avoid the expensive computer in the reception) and the elevators, while a bit old, are still in fine working order. The cleanliness was fine and the staff was attentive. The breakfast is a bit odd so, if you can, try to have breakfast at one of the nearby cafes. The hotel is on the rue Lafayette, near 3 very different neighborhoods of Paris. For one, the Opera area where you can go shopping at Galeries Lafayette. On the other side is Rue des Martyrs with small independent shops, and finally Grands Boulevards, with cinemas, passages and most beautiful covered galleries of the city. It's a great location and very close to Le Peletier metro stop (line 7) and Notre Dame de Loreto (line 12) in the Quartier de Opèra. Although the hotel is on Lafayette Street don't panic because rooms are perfectly soundproof, the wifi was fine (the receiving computer is expensive, avoid), the lift was old but fine and the cleaning staff were proper and very attentive. Breakfast was very expensive so if you can go to a local cafe it's more economical.

The Villa Pantheon is a luxury hotel on Rue des Ecoles in the 5th arrondissement of Paris. It's a perfect place to visit on foot the oldest part of the city, the banks of the river and Notre Dame. The street has a few bus stops and the metro is a 5 minute walk, along with Luxembourg RER. The 59 rooms, superior and normal, cost from 120 euros/night have old décor charm, minibar, cable TV and wireless internet. Staff speak English.

    Quality Hotel Paris Orleans
The Paris Orléans Hotel is at the end of the metro line 4, stop Porte d'Orléans. It is very convenient if you come to Paris by car because you're out of town, it's much easier to park and the ring road that goes around the city is 500 meters away. It's not a neighborhood to walk out at night, I don't recommend it as there's not much to do. Metro Line 4 is very fast and takes you to Montparnasse in 10 minutes, to the center of Paris in 20 minutes, as well as the Latin Quarter, Lazare venues and bars, but you have to be willing to take the subway. It's a 3 star hotel in a beautiful nineteenth century building, renovated in 2006 with 91-rooms that cost 80-120 euros, the higher price for expensive suites. Breakfast isn't included but there are several local cafes that offer best breakfasts. There is wireless Internet, newspaper and some magazines (after consultation) and negotiation with local car parks to get good rates.

    Hôtel Melia Colbert
This luxurious and recently-renovated boutique hotel is located in a magnificent 19th-century building in a great area of town. It’s situated only a few steps from Notre Dame and the Latin Quarter. It has 39 quiet and elegantly-decorated rooms, including junior and presidential suites. All rooms have private bath, air conditioning, phone, internet, satellite television, minibar, and room service. The best things I remember were the staff, the gorgeous views of the cathedral from my window, and the excellent breakfasts every morning (the scrambled eggs are to die for!).

    Little Palace Hotel
One of the most important factors when choosing a hotel in such a touristy city is location. If, on top of a great location, you find a hotel that’s affordable and comfortable, well…you can say that you've found the perfect place. Hotel Little Palace combines all of these qualities: comfort, location, and proximity to the metro, Les Halles, and the business areas. The building itself is gorgeous, as are the views from the rooms. If you’re looking for a little fortification before heading out to the museums, you can have a drink in the hotel bar while admiring the elegant ceilings and windows. The prices run between 175 and 250 for a double room, depending on the season.

    Opera Cadet hotel
The hotel is well located in the Opera area. The facilities are good. The beds were stretchers rather than beds, all very small, but I get the impression, from what I could see, the other rooms were bigger. Included breakfast very very basic, no extra. I return to this hotel, but if I would ensure a room a little better off. Otherwise okay, the value is good. I recommend it for people who do not overwhelm in small spaces.
