While searching for information on the Languedoc and the route of the Cathars, I found it one of the most unusual, fun, relaxing, fearless and curious journeys I have done. Sometimes, we have big adventures. A week of July a "peniche" a couple went on an unplanned adventure that emerged by chance. The Canal du Midi is a work conceived in the C18th to make the south of France navigable, its main objective was to improve trade relations. From the Atlantic to the Mediterranean you can cross one of the most amazing cultural, historical, culinary, scenically speaking tours. In areas declared World Heritage Site, Fonseranes Écluses in Beziers, Carcassonne, L'Etang de Thau, etc.. A trip with millions of stories, pictures marked on the retina and in the memory. The highlight: The locks, I never imagined that someday they overcome the power of water, and I lost myself in the middle of a lake in the south of France, and would sleep soundly rocked by the stream water, and I drove a boat without a license ;) and admired nature, incredible in its perpetual change. We started the route in Carnon and during the 140 miles journey to Homps, we experienced an amazing experience. Lakes or rather seas, charming villages, marshes of incredible beauty, pure nature, sunsets and gilded sunrises Languedoc vineyards, avenues of poplars and poplars, endless nights a romantic candlelight, we moored along the river, drinking a good wine cellar to rest from a "grueling" day of sailing ;) The route is travelled by boat and you can choose the path and category, we chose novice and we opted for a cute " peniche" one of the longer journeys but we arrived. The company will provide all the equipment for the ship, except for the food. But no one warned us that we chose the hard way ;). The car we left at the starting point and the company took it to the destination. More than 12 locks on the course, in the end we become experts. We had friends and family to make the great adventure together, as there are options such as renting a boat cruise, or going along the canal in a boat hotel with all the amenities. Recommended to do alone, as a couple, with friends, with family, come on, it is for all tastes.
