Les Angles is a lovely little Provencal village situated very near Avignon. The good thing about this place is that part of the transportation network of the big city can be reached by city bus. It is the perfect place to see the typical Provencal village that everyone dreams about, with low stone houses and roof tiles, some painted in pastel colors and yellow. The village is situated on a hill overlooking the Rhone and the valley. There is also a large shopping center, which is the reason why most people have heard of Les Angles Avignon, simply because they go shopping there. However, in the historical heart of the town, it is very different. It is difficult to go by car through the narrow streets. If you head towards the motorway, you will find very beautiful views.
The church of Les Angles is typical, small Provencal church that overlooks the city as well as the Rhone Valley. The old part of the city is beautiful with its small cobbled streets and stone houses that were built on top of a hill. It seems that the church wanted to be stronger in case of invasion. The church was built in the 7th century, but what you're actually seeing is the updates from the 12th century and later. The church was destroyed in the 14th century, after the Hundred Years War when the army plundered a lot of religious places. In the 18th century there was very little of it left, so they built a small church in the 15th century, which is now the current parish. In early Gothic style, the church has three ships irregular arches decorated with fantastic animals. It is a historical monument.
