The archeological museum of Naxos (Messina), established in 1972, houses material from the site of Naxos, the oldest Greek colony in Sicily, testimony to the thriving cultural life in the early centuries after the foundation (735 BC). There are documents from the archives, libraries and documentation centers, public and private.
A beautiful town just five km from Taormina. Less famous than Taormina, Naxos Girdini it is a much more suitable for people who hate crowds but want to enjoy the beauty of the Sicilian people. The village itself is great for walks. The houses are two-storey and small and most of the village has views of the coast and sea. In addition, this population has one of the most beautiful beaches of Sicily and, not least, a few miles from Giardini Naxos you can visit the Gola Alcantara, which is a set of really impressive and beautiful canyons. Giant, twisted rock formation that were created by magma. In Giardini - Naxos there is also space for culture as it has several ruins that while not as impressive as those of Taormina, are worth visiting. The most notable is a wall of 300 m and a beautiful smaller proportions temple located in the city center. I recommend visiting this town at dusk as the sunsets are truly extraordinary from almost anywhere in Giardini-Naxos.
