    In Plaza de la Paz, in front of a plaque to commemorate the appointment of the ancient city of Guanajuato as a World Heritage Site, is the church of the patron saint of the city, the Basilica of Our Lady of Guanajuato. Near it is the underground Calle Miguel Hidalgo which follows the course of the Guanajuato River that once crossed the city.

    A few steps from the Juarez Theatre is a majestic pink stone building which was built in 1728. Another one of the top Guanajuato attractions is the Church of San Francisco, one of the largest religious buildings in the city.
