Montanejos is a small town surrounded by mountains, giving it a completely unique location, as its thermal waters have made it become a spa town.
It's located in the Western region of the Alto Mijares. Hotels are spread throughout the city and there's a huge spa that a multitude of people frequent through the year (most of them senior citizens).
A few meters from the center there are various places to go for a dip in the river. There's a nice, lit path headed there from the center of town. The Fuente de los Banos is one of the most famous springs. The quality of the water emanated from the inside of the mountain is indicated at various points.
I went to this spectacular place to spend a day with friends. We thought it was the perfect place. There is crystalline water with an amazing temperature and different hiking routes. It is ideal to visit with children who love to go in the water, one of the pools has a small toboggan, and it is not dangerous to swim there.
The recreational areas are perfectly delimited and everything is very clean, despite the great number of people who go there. Even though it is a much frequented place, it is worth to go there to contemplate the river and vegetation; they even achieve to distance you from the noise and your own thoughts.
Without a doubt, I will go back there, probably in the fall or winter, to enjoy its beauty and peace and calm.
There are still landmarks here, and a terrace with views of the lake and mountains, where you can recharge your batteries after the adrenaline and fun of the Aquatic Adventure activities. After paddling through the reservoir, rappel down a wall to the reservoir and then jump out to the water zip line. I had a great time at the Tyrolean Ski area. Besides adventure activities, you can also rent kayaks or take a leisurely stroll by the reservoir. Very recommendable; a place to get away that's full of excitement and relaxation. The Montanejos Spa visit I did had two parts, the first took place during a relaxing evening after a busy day of kayaking. I went with a friend and we enjoyed the chocolaterapia facial treatment. No, the chocolate is not eaten. You might consider 7-10 days of treatment, during which all your aches and pains can be treated. I loved the facilities and the women who looked after us were great, especially the receptionist, who was always smiling.
Canoeing is cool, and we did it on the river near Montanejos. Victor from GeoExtrem picked us up at our hotel and took us to where we had to go to prepare the equipment. Once we had our superhero outfits on (helmet + breastplate + bodysuit), they shows us how to use the paddles and then we hit the waters.
During the trip down the river, they explained to us all the little nooks and crannies in the river so that it would be easier to maneuver without capsizing. Truth is, I’m rubbish at it, truly rubbish! I fell in each and every rapid I passed by except the very last one. But, it was a really fun morning in the end.
