The ruins of Santa Mariña Dozo, Cambados are in the upper part of the village. It is a late Gothic style temple whose construction was ordered in the mid-sixteenth century. They are within a cemetery. The conservation status of the ruins is good and the environment is right.
Cambados (Pontedra) Galicia. Do not miss it and visit Cambados, it is worth it. Billed as the birthplace of Alvariño its beauty will surprise you, especially at low tide. I went this summer and the atmosphere was awesome. I encourage walking and going to try the Albariño or Ribeiro sitting on any seafront terrace.
This winery is inside one of the most important structures in Cambados: The manor of Fefiñanes, in the cobbled square of the center, which is home of the church of San Benito. This square and its monuments was declared a Historic Artistic Spanish heritage site. The winery can be visited, and also has a store, where you can buy wine Ribeiro and Albariño, as well as herbal liqueur pomace that is homemade. It is open Monday-Saturday from 10.00 to 14.00 and 16.00 to 20.00.
The church of San Francisco was, in the past, a Franciscan convent, of which scarcely any remains. Today the church is used as the Cambados parish church. It's a simple baroque church that is fairly central and easy to find, you must climb stairs to access it. What stood out most for me was the large number of crosses, both in front and in the kind of venue where you are located. To the right of the church is a small gate that was formerly entered by monks but I could not access it. The interior is very nice and it has two chapels, what I liked best was an image of the Virgin. The back of the church is surrounded by trees and grass, I am always fascinated by churches that are surrounded by nature. On the left side stands a tower (the church bell tower), it is pretty tiny. I liked the visit, it's not spectacular but the church has its charm.
One year we went to the new edition of the Festival of the Albariño wine, declared of National Tourist Interest in which you want to pay tribute to one of our most distinguished writers Galician, Alvaro Cunqueiro occasion of its centennial, and it was a good contributor to promoting wine appellation of origin Alvariño. Although the holiday is celebrated mostly because of Albariño wine promotion as recognized in all world. In fact there were all kinds of tastings in the "tunnel" in the congress hall (old canning) at 15 €. This feast that some would "official botellon", full of color and joy was held in this small fishing town this weekend, in which thousands of bottles uncorked this wine fresh and soft, which is considered among the best wines European white. In the setting of the promenade of La Calzada, close to the Parador hotel, settled little more than twenty stands of the most recognized brands in the wine cellars Alvariño, with designation of origin Rias such as Martin Codax , Bouza do Rei Albarei Counts, etc.All accompanied by various activities, exhibitions and concerts entertained by the evening, and at night in the courtyard of the Manor of Fefiñans, and we saw the performance of "Dover¨.
This lovely church is in the historic area of Cambados, next to the square of Fefiñans. Its structure is simple but also has charm. The most striking are 2 towers that stand on both sides of the main facade and two towers which are not very large. Inside I visited only once and there are at grave Gonzalo de Valladares and his wife. I recommend a visit.
The Pazo de Ulloa, also known as the Os Pazos Casona is in the top of Cambados, going to the chapel of Mount Da Pastora and the ruins of Santa Marina. It looks good because it faces a square having a stone cross in the middle and the corner of the street. It is a private manor, with a stone wall, but can be seen from the outside. It's traditional Galician, made of rock and with thick walls, with a garden. In the main entrance is the coat of arms Acevedo, Ulloa, the Fonseca and Castro. It was constructed in the 15th century, but it has been refurbished.
Next to an old tree, I think it was an oak, sits the lookout on Mount A Pastora, which stands on a rock and on this a stone cross. It can be highlighted for its amazing views of the Ria de Arosa. You can walk from downtown, as is only about 10 minutes and behind the Ethnological Museum of Wine and the Ruins of St. Marina Mount Pastora is now a recreational zone with stone tables and bbqs , with many trees including bananas typical walk, juniper, oak, chestnut, pine. From here starts a hiking trail (it is signposted) called Pastora-Umia. In this mountain also makes a popular pilgrimage during the summer during the month of August in honor of the Virgin.
This chapel is in the forest on Mount Da Pastora, in uptown Cambados. It has spectacular views of Cambados, the Ria de Arosa and the ruins of Santa Marina. It is a XVI century church that houses a painted image of the Virgin, seated and surrounded by sheep. During August a pilgrimage is celebrated in her honor at this popular mountain lookout.
This is the first museum dedicated to wine of Galicia, it's in the upper area of Cambados, next to the ruins of Santa Mariña Doza. It explains all aspects of the wine world, especially the designation of origin of the Rias Baixas in Salnes region (history, art, geography, popular culture, production and tasting tips). There are panels, winery models, audiovisuals and various wine-related objects. The museum consists of 2 buildings connected by a walkway. One is new, the other is an old renovated mansion (known as Casa Ricoi). It is surrounded by a landscaped area, where there is a growing area for vines, a press and other winemaking implements. Admission is € 3 and it is open Tuesday to Sunday from 10.00-14.00 and from 16:30-19:30.
This weekend I was in Cambados. Close to the City Council is Plaza Ramón Cabanillas, the illustrious Galician writer who was born in this beautiful town, and where the Monumento del Poeta da Raza is, with a barrel of albariño wine in one hand and a bunch of grapes in the other (a symbol of the famous vineyards of the region of Salnés). This albariñense culture has its peak in the annual celebration during the first weekend of August (the celebration of the Feast of Albariño), which attracts many visitors/tourists, you can taste different Albariño wines that enter the competition as well as its cuisine. This fiesta is declared of National Tourist Interest since it is always opened by political or cultural personalities.
