Along side the Santa Clara Hotel are the most popular and luxurious places in the historic center of Cartagena de Indias, being located in the southwest section of the wall, next to the [poi = 120953] Naval Museum [/ poi]. What is now the hotel, was the first convent of the walled city (the building dates back from the seventeenth century), built by a wealthy lady of the aristocracy of that era to spend the last years of her life in the company of the nuns. For sure you will sleep better here than in the Gethsemane Hostel (the cheapest area to stay), and the rooms aren't too expensive either (offers starting at 200 euros), but for me the 200 euros for accommodation would be half my budget for the trip in Colombia (obviously I don't recommend the majority of the places where I stay).
The Hotel Dann Cartagena is a site facing the sea, located in Little Lake in Cartagena de Indias (Colombia). It's not a 7-star hotel, but the amenities are perfect. The rooms are spacious, clean and tidy, with great views of the city and sea. The impeccable staff were especially friendly and hospitable, always willingly to help with anything. It has a large pool just alongside the sand, so if the sea is rough, or is a little cold, just jump into the warm waters in the pool and relax for a while. Ideal for families or a couple on their honeymoon.
Not everything in [poi = 123962] Gethsemane [/ poi] is hostels for backpackers and budget travelers. The neighborhood, in and of itself beautiful, but spoiled by a long decline, is now slowly changing and some foreigners are betting strongly against hotels without charm. This is the case of Relax House, a B & B run by a Frenchman who fell in love with [poi = 123420] Cartagena [/ poi]. The location is superb. The comfortable rooms overlook a courtyard with a large pool in the middle, which is surrounded by comfortable loungers. The hotel has a stunning lounge with a pool table, a large dining room and a modern kitchen facilities. The environment is warm and welcoming. Finally, I have to say that the value of Casa Relax is excellent.
The Hotel San Pedro de Majagua is located on one islands that make up the Rosario Islands in Cartagena de Indias, Colombia. This four star hotel is part of the Sofitel chain, and has an property you will never forget. The rooms are located on the greenery where you can enjoy pure nature and sea. They provide cabins with a spacious veranda overlooking the sea. It also has a restaurant serving typical dishes of the region, and two seating areas with their own bars, where you can relax quietly oceanfront and listen to music. It's ideal for a couple of days and to enjoy the wonderful coral forest found under the sea.
It was difficult to find Casa El Carretero because there were no signs advertising its presence, but this makes sense, as the idea behind it is to make it feel like home. In fact, the staff are very attentive but only come if you call, as there's no reception. The three bedrooms are decorated in an Asian style. The best part is the breakfast, prepared to order by the lady (I don't remember her name!). Eggs, juices, pastries, good quality coffee, and more.
I stayed at the Hotel Regatta Cartagena and I loved its beauty and modernity. It's friendly and bright, with wonderful views: I stayed on the 16th floor, which is a great spot for taking pictures and enjoying the sound of the sea. I recommend this hotel also because it is staffed by friendly, welcoming people. One night I lost my laptop, and received so much help from the staff! It's not a big hotel, and the cleaning is impeccable. Everything is perfect, up to and including the pillow! Many thanks to the great staff here.
The Sofitel Legend has been classified as the best hotel in Cartagena de Indias by several surveys and international magazines. It's considered to be one of the best hotels in the Americas, and even worldwide. Located in the historic old town of Cartagena in the former Convent of Santa Clara, it has a unique charm thanks to its mixture of old and modern. Its service is simply fantastic - there's no doubting that this really is the best hotel in Cartagena de Indias!
The Yellow House is a new hostel on the banks of the Rio Magdalena in Mompos, Bolivar. A beautiful colonial house, and the owners, a Colombian and Spanish couple, make you feel at home. They offer free coffee, use of the communal kitchen, hammocks in the courtyard, Book exchange, TV and DVD in the room and bike rental.
The spectacular [poi = 123420] Old City of Cartagena [/ poi] has lodging for all tastes and budgets. The Marques Hotel, located in a dramatically restored colonial mansion, is the ideal location for a honeymoon, a romantic vacation or just to treat yourself to a decadent indulgence. Decorated in exquisite taste, it boasts a wonderful playground, a pool surrounded by ancient walls, indoor and outdoor lounges and large rooms, the Marques is one of the best hotels in Cartagena.
Sophisticated, luxurious, beautiful, romantic, relaxed ... it's hard to choose just one adjective to describe the exquisite Pestagua House, a colonial mansion from the early seventeenth century that's located in the heart of the [poi = 123420] Old City of Cartagena [/ poi]. Pestagua House, whose original owner was an Earl, went through years of decline until it was restored. It would be great to run as a luxury hotel-spa. It has a lovely pool surrounded by palm trees, a cozy bar, an elegant restaurant, a spa where you can get pampered, jacuzzi on the terrace to enjoy the magical sunsets and 12 Caribbean dream suites, make hotel Casa Pestagua unforgettable.
The incredible village of [poi = 1] Mompox [/ poi] has hostels that seem to be suspended in time. One of them is the Doña Manuela, in an extraordinary house which is more than 300 years old. The house seems to have undergone changes over time. It has huge rooms with antique rocking chairs, and a large veranda overlooking a large courtyard where there is spectacular and gigantic tree called 'Suan' (family of ficus) like something out of a novel by García Márquez. Rooms at Doña Manuela are comfortable, but not beautiful. What attracts people to the hostel is its atmosphere and its delicious air of another time.
Like [poi = 78486] The Yellow House, [/ poi] [poi = 124604] the, Hostal Doña Manuela [/ poi] and [poi = 1] Hotel La Casona [/ poi], the Casa Hotel Villa de Mompox is completely charming. In a colonial mansion that has remained amazingly unchanged over the years, the hotel air is tinged with memories and a certain melancholy. With large rooms where you'll find the inevitable rocking chair and a large courtyard full of plants and flowers, the hotel is another unforgettable corner to stay in Mompox.
La Casona is another wonderful option for accommodation in the magical village of [poi = 1] Mompox [/ poi]. Like [poi = 78486] The Yellow House [/ poi], the [poi = 124604] Hostal Doña Manuela [/ poi] and [poi = 124606] House Hotel Villa de Mompox [/ poi], La Casona has wide and airy rooms, swings, gardens and galleries, all taking you to another time. Nestled in the main street of Mompox, its amenities, atmosphere and decor are delightful.
Casa Catalina Real, is located in the walled city ... it is an apartment furnished with all amenities, excellent attention, staff are very friendly and attentive. It is close to all the best sights and monuments, restaurants, supermarkets, banks ... I recommend it to all people who want to visit Cartagena. I give it a 10 ...
The Blue House Hostel is a hotel aimed at kitesurfers. I have no interest in the sport, but I really enjoyed the atmosphere. There's good music by day, and it's calm at night. There's no hot water, but the truth is that it's quite normal and you won't miss it in the heat of Cartagena. A very pleasant place to stay in the heart of the walled city, with charming staff and good prices. Highly recommended.
If you want to ensure that your stay in Cartagena is exceptional, spend a night at the Hotel Boutique LM. It's located on a quiet street in the historic Bolivar Park area close to the center of the city. The rooms are cozy and air conditioned and the hotel has fine restaurants and incredible decor. You won't want to leave!
This boutique hotel has one of the best spas in the centre of Cartagena de Indias, in addition to a great restaurant. It is located on Calle del Pedregal in Gethsemane, near the Heredia Bridge and close to the Fort San Sebastian de Pastelillo - a very beautiful place. The area is quieter than the centre, but very good.
Even without a monopoly on the beach, these two brothers, Will and Leo, have monopoly on the cabins. There are many cabins extending along the coast where you can stay, or sleep in the shelter from mosquitoes, between the village of Mama Hugo and Martha. You can also rent a hammock if you prefer to be under the shelter of the stars.
We stayed at this hostel a few days ago with two friends. The first day we arrived they stole all of our money from inside our locker in the room. The place is unsafe, the area of the city where it's located is the worst part and is terribly cared for. The hostel manager didn't want to take responsibility for what happened until we went to the police to report it. I don't recommend it to anyone.
I did some research about this hotel and I liked the location and the price. It's in the historic centre of Cartagena, an old house with 11 renovated rooms. It's a small hotel, with each room having its own unique personal touch, so I'd consider it a boutique hotel. It's very simple, but clean and comfortable. One night in a double room costs around $100 - a good price in this expensive city. The daily rate includes free breakfast and wifi throughout the hotel. The rooms have TV, air conditioning and a minibar. The staff are very helpful, and happy to offer recommendations about places to visit and eat. Highly recommended.
