We decided to stay at the Holiday Inn during our trip to San Luis Obispo. We were on a road trip so it's location right off the 101 yet still in the downtown area was perfect. The hotel was pretty empty but that meant that there was basically no noise. The room was super cozy and loved the detail of the towels in the bathroom. Breakfast and parking were included in the price of the room, as was the wi-fi. The breakfast was simply but good and consisted of coffee, tea, milk, yoghurt, eggs and bacon, a few kinds of fruit and toast. It's a good and cheap place to stay!
If you're driving Highway 1 from Los Angeles and San Francisco, I's suggest stopping and staying in the beautiful city of San Luis Obispo. If you don't want to spend a lot, try this very nice little hotel in an old converted house. Everything here is warm, pleasant, and comfortable. There's even a breakfast in the morning at a big table in the living room with the other guests. Great experience.
Hostel Obispo is an affordable and cozy choice for accommodation when traveling along California’s Central Coast. It’s a small hostel (I believe there are eight rooms) with clean dorms and private rooms, and an intimate setting. (Note: I stayed in a private room that was smaller than I’m used to – just a few feet of space on the sides of the bed and maybe two feet of space at the foot of the bed. Just a note for those who may desire more space.)
Bathrooms are also decent, although there are other places with cleaner ones. Still, no big complaints about that. Pancakes, tea and coffee for breakfast are included, so that’s pretty nice. Hostel Obispo is nestled in a residential area that’s within walking distance to the Amtrak station, some small parks and the downtown area. There are a few parking spots in the back for those who end up driving, as well as abundant street parking. (Just read the signs for street cleaning and other restrictions.) The staff is also very helpful and the owner is nice as well! Highly recommended. I would absolutely stay here again if I make my way up the coast in the future.
If you're looking for an affordable place to stay in the Central California area, Sundown Inn is a good choice. Sure, it's not a 5-star hotel, nor is it the most glamorous inn, but it's CLEAN (which is incredibly important). It’s conveniently located within walking distance to various local eateries (as opposed to chain restaurants), and it’s a short walk away from the water. Customer service is great - Ann is such a friendly and welcoming lady! Apart from location and service, the room I stayed in had a TV, coffee maker, and a cool magic fingers feature on the bed that activates when you drop a quarter into the machine.
