Community Garden in Portland

The community garden idea arose when the land was made available to the council and its dimensions could not, however much they wanted them to, build a block of apartments. A group of residents requested to make the site a community social work project. They wanted to plant their own fruits and vegetables. Originally 5 people working the land, this figure has grown to 50 people who, in turn, go once a week to offer assistance with the deserved reward. Each season the fruit and vegetables are harvested and distributed. It was a joy to experience for a day even though I went on harvest day!....
