1 review of Hammonasset Beach State Park

Beach, Boardwalk, Birds, and Beauty

Hammonasset is Connecticut’s largest public beach, encompassing over two miles of shoreline in the town of Madison, located roughly at the mid-point of the Connecticut coast. It’s also one of the most popular, and for good reason.

The sandy beach stretches between Long Island Sound and a boardwalk ideal for strolling. There’s also a food concession stand and plenty of picnic tables.

But this state park is more than sand and Sound. Over 1,000 acres of land provide plenty of space for walking trails, a nature center where visitors can learn about the beach and salt marshes, camping (Hammonasset has over 550 campsites), swimming, fishing, boating, bird watching, and opportunities to observe diverse wildlife and geological features.
