Nomadic Ethiopian region
The Afar region is one of the most inhospitable areas in Ethiopia; in other parts of the country we can find spectacular scenery, rich in vegetation and colour, but in the Afar region the overall colour is brown. It's a completely barren area, a desert of volcanic earth where there isn't much vegetation. This means there aren't many towns in the area, and the majority of its population is nomadic. People travel with their cattle through the deserted territories, going from oasis to oasis. The oases are the desert areas where there is some sort of lake and a bit of vegetation. Being such an inhospitable area, the best animal to have is the camel, because they are the only animals that are able to withstand such extreme temperatures (we're talking about 50 degrees), and they can go for days without drinking.
