The best thing about this hotel is its location and parking, which is guarded and in front of the hotel. It's less than one minute from the square where the tour buses depart from, close to transportation, the tourist office, and cafes if you don't have your car with you. However, keep in mind that the hotel is getting on a bit, so the quality might not be what you'd expect from a 4 star. Still, it's fine as a place to sleep, and I wouldn't hesitate to go back!
We were having dinner there one night and loved it. Excellent dishes with very good presentation and very friendly. The price was 20-35 euros depending on if you drink wine and have a dessert. For us it only cost 19 euro with water. It's a place, that although isn't very cheap, is well worth it.
Quinta Das Murtas is a former palace built in the nineteenth century in the historic city of Sintra. Free wireless internet is available. Each of the 15 rooms ae personalized. Great for staying in if you´re there to explore or if you´d rather just relax in the room.
Seteais Palace was built in the late eighteenth century for Daniel Gildemeester, Dutch Consul in Portugal. The palace was extended in the early nineteenth century when it belonged to Dom Diogo de Meneses Vito Joseph Noronha Coutinho, Marquis of Marialva. He built the left wing of the palace and its majestic arch (in 1802) in honor of the visit of Dom João VI, Prince Regent, and Queen Carlota Joaquina. It's a stately neo-classical palace built by the architect José da Costa e Silva. The interior has undergone several restorations has a room frescoed with mythological motifs. The palace gardens are simply stunning, well kept and beautiful. From the garden overlooking the main facade is Pena Palace and the Castle above the mountain and in the garden on the other side of the palace there is a nice view of the surroundings, Palace Monsterrate and sea. Very, very nice. Today it is a fabulous 5 star hotel (one of the best in Portugal) belonging to the Tivoli Portuguese hotel chain, but it is being completely renovated.
This villa has 4 independent apartments. We were a group and it was fun; each couple had a terrace with comfortable chairs where we enjoyed the sights and and some tapas. The apartments are colorful and are fully-furnished with a microwave and refrigerator, plus you have another terrace overlooking the large pool and garden. The owners are very friendly and live nearby. It is close to local restaurants and cafes with good food. You can also go horseback riding through Sintra or the beaches. It is very near the center of Sintra and 20 minutes from Lisbon.
A few years ago I visited it because the price and quality seemed to be fair, but I wouldn´t recommend it now, because it was disappointing, unless it has been refurbished since then. It is a 4 star hotel, constructed in the 70s and must have been one of the best in the city, but unfortunately time has left its mark: dirty and faded carpeting, furniture of Castilian style, completely outdated and impractical , too dark and it seems that they are always full of dust, the chest of drawers that I was afraid to open. The bathroom was clean, made with marble, but from the time of Maricastaña. The AC worked only one day of the 10 and from there. The pool was nice but it was not enough when the hotel is full. As for water, there was a shortage, but it was pretty murky, in fact I only went inside one day. As for the service, very friendly, but not very effective in the issue of cleanliness, were limited to: Bathroom Cleaning, change of towels and sheets. And worst elevator theme, I'm afraid that since its inauguration in 1966, is it the same, from a pathetic horror movie ....
The Penha Longa Hotel & Golf Resort is located in a large national park that was once the summer residence for the royal Portuguese family. It is a luxurious hotel that has two golf courses and a palace from the 19th century. The piano bar is the ideal place to enjoy a drink. All the 177 rooms have spacious and luxurious bathrooms and it also has a fully equipped gym.
This hotel is family run, and is surrounded by lovely gardens that are located in a quiet area in the hills of Sintra. All guests will feel at home due to the warm service of the staff who work there and who are highly qualified.
The Pousada Dona Maria I, in Queluz, is just opposite the National Palace of Queluz, so cannot miss it. It is a historic building with a pink facade. Most notable is the clock tower with a bell. It has 24 rooms and 2 suites. Just a little down the road from the inn, there is a bus stop with connections to the town centre and train station, from which you can link to Lisbon or Sintra, among other attractions.
