Bentomiz Castle

Following the route of the villages of the Axarquia, we approached the village of Arenas (located 10 Km, Velez Malaga) and from there, we took a dirt track to climb up the remainder of Bentomiz Castle, located on the Mount bearing the same name. Bentomiz Castle was built in the Muslim era, and has been recollected in the memories of Abd Allah, Moorish king of Granada XI century. By then Bentomiz was the main administrative district in the time of the Moorish Kingdom of Granada, so in that period (XIII-XV centuries), this mountainous region became rich from its production of silk and grapes, also raisins.
