Chapel of Our Lady of Socorri

The Chapel of Our Lady of Socorri can be found at the top of this beautiful French Basque village. It's a much-loved place of pilgrimage in the area. The views are beautiful, surrounded by mountains, the ocean ... It was in the seventeenth century when a Basque sailors almost wrecked by La Rochelle. They promised the Virgin who would build a chapel if they survived, and it did. The chapel was built surrounded by mountains and the sea. In the outdoor garden trails we find the Basque people who died from a cholera epidemic in 1855 and had to be buried there for lack of space in the church cemetery.
