The port of San Juan de Luz (Donibane Lohitzune in Basque), became famous during the 9th Century because of the whaling that went on here. Centuries later, it became the cod fishery in Newfoundland. Today they are mostly sardines and tuna. Also do not miss a visit to the neighboring Ciboure / Ziburu.
