Church of St. Nicholas

4 reviews of Church of St. Nicholas

Church of St. Nicholas

Roman origin

The parish of St. Nicholas has existed since the mid XIII century. The current state of the church is the result of several renovations. The first and most profound renovation was done by the Monroy family. Specifically by Don Nuño Perez de Monroy, who was buried in it (he died in 1326) and his brother Fernando. Its present appearance is due to the late Gothic restoration done in the fifteenth century. It conserves a burial with a praying statue of the Bishop of Coria D Pedro Giron de Carvajal, born in Piacenza and a romanesque font.
