Fonte Dos Amores

The area of Carvalhelhos in the Portuguese municipality of Boticas, is famous for its water(in fact one of the most famous mineral waters north of Portugal is made from its water). The abundance of this liquid element is conducive for growing lush vegetation (oak, chestnut, trades, ferns etc.) and creating beautiful areas, such as the Fonte dos Amores. Many villagers go there for relief from the summer heat, as the pond is suitable for swimming. The poetic Fonte dos Amores name comes from a legend, that there is a chamber full of gold coins from a muslim woman who mourned the loss of her love in this magical place. Today many people flock to the small waterfall to take oaths of love and record their names there.
