One of the most interesting regions

The mysterious Transylvania is a region in Romania. Its name means beyond the forests and it's one of the most interesting of the country's regions. The Germanic, Hungarian and Romanian cultural traditions contribute to the ethnic and cultural diversity of the country. The Transylvanian plateau is enclosed by mountains, which hindered travelling and mixing with other regions. Then each town, seeing the other as an enemy, began to building fortifications to defend themselves in case of attack. They were not warriors, the goal was defensive, not invasive. In general, the church was fortified with walls strong enough to protect the entire village, which took refuge there with their animals, their livestock, their children and their wealth.
