Homorod Fortified Church

1 review of Homorod Fortified Church

Very rural

Homorod is a small town in Transylvania, close to Rupea. It's in a field and is very rural. The village was created by a Saxon community who also built a beautiful fortified church. The tower has a cross and a loggia at door height. The nave of the church used to have a sky plane but it was replaced by Gothic arches in the XVI century, with columns at each corner of the nave to carry the weight. There are also elements on either side of the bell tower, which has a round staircase to climb. The fortification seems never to have suffered from invasions. They were prepared for any war and, in case of threat, the whole town gathered within the church walls, with enough food/weapons to last for months.
