Fountain Gardens

The water gardens, or gardens of the fountains are in the middle part of the gardens of Sigiriya, when you go from the entrance to the rock where the old capital was. The complex is impressive, not only for its size, but for the progress that the Sinhalese made in trying to conserve water, and the ingenious irrigation system installed there. There are two large tanks on each side of the main road, plus several smaller tanks installed there. The garden itself is actually like an island totally surrounded by water. There were four inputs of water, making it harder for the enemy to conquer it.
