1 review of St. Mungos Parish Church

A historic jewel

Excellent

The Calvinist Church of Scotland has a strong presence in Alloa, where its most distinctive building is the church of St Mungo. It has a sharp steeple that reaches 63 meters high, and can be visible from almost everywhere in town. The steeple marks the spot where St Mungo (also known as St Kentigern) passed through. A chapel was raised in the early fourteenth century, before being expanded in the late fiftenth and renovated in the last sixteenth. After the Religious Reformation, the church was donated to the Erskine family (one of the most powerful in Scotland), and a new church was built in the early nineteenth century. It is still active and does a lot of good work in the community.
