A Gandhi residence

Birla House is one of the most famous buildings in the history of contemporary India, and one of the saddest. This is the house where Mahatma Gandhi spent the last 144 days of his life, and was assassinated on January 30, 1948. Originally the home of a prominent business family in India, the Birlas. The Birla House was acquired by the Government of India in 1971 and opened to the public on August 15, 1973. Inside, you can see a museum where they have kept some of the things that Gandhi used, as well as murals showing scenes from the great man's life. The room where he lived has been preserved, and his last steps are marked on the ground, although you can't step on them.
