Mate

The Mate district is perhaps the city's bohemian district, a neighborhood that's in fashion. It was formerly a stronghold for industry and traders but has become a site where all my neighbors would go to live. It's right on the banks of the river and below the cathedral, very near the center. The colored houses with red roofs are most striking and there are bars, restaurants and even craft stores. An interesting place to wander around and discover a different and lively Bern.
