Faro City Walls

Plaza de San Francisco has the best preserved remains of the main city walls of Faro. They were built in the IX century, during the Muslim occupation, and modified in the XI century with the construction of watchtowers and the Arco do Repouso, one of the entrances to the old town. The Castle was built inside the enclosure and the walls have been renovated numerous times throughout history.
