Priory of Beauly

Excellent

Beauly Priory was founded in 1230 by the strange order of Valiscaulianos who moved from Burgundy (France) at the express invitation of Lord John Bisset, to create a priory next to the river that shares its name, Beauly. In 1560, monastic life ended in Scotland, leaving the building abandoned. In Scotland, there are only three buildings belonging to this order, hence the importance of these ruins. The name Beauly means "beautiful place" and the monks who lived there considered it a place of retreat where you connect with God through prayer and other spiritual activities. The ruins that stand before us today mainly comprise the church, with a Latin cross.
