Restaurante El Archete (Closed)

This was our first taste of the island's gastronomy. We went there directly after landing in the island because we had heard of it and it was recommended by the Michelin Guide.

It is outside of Candelaria, in the motorway's exit. The place has different rooms, with a rustic-style decoration with traditional elements from the island. It has an open air terrace, and a cellar that is now used as a dining room.

It has a market cuisine with typical dishes; a wide menu, and the chef's suggestions. We were two, and we decided to share the first two dishes: bread with avocado and grilled ham and sautéed spinach with raisins, both were very good. Then we chose two of the house recommendations: sirloin with mango sauce and grilled fish. In my opinion, the sirloin was tastier.

This restaurant is a classic for lovers of traditional food. Even though it is traditional, it is constantly renovated with new menus that include new techniques, but always using traditional products.

The restaurant is near Candelaria, halfway between the south and north of the island. It is next to the highway, but quite isolated, there are no houses or buildings around. It has a good parking lot. Among the restaurant's latest creations there is the pollack with limpet sauce, the potatoes with cilantro sauce, the grouper with vegetable wok. To accompany the dishes you can choose from a selection of local and international wines.
