Lovely chapel

Excellent

This Russian-esque chapel is in the Mathildenhöhe in Darmstadt. The chapel was built between 1897-1899 by the architect N. Leon Benois in the Russian city of St. Petersburg, hence the touch of Russian design. Among his most famous works are some of the Art Nouveau buildings in Russia. Inside is decorated with frescoes by Leonti Nikolaevich Benois. The chapel was created for Tsar Nicholas II of Russia. 400,000 Deutschmarks was the cost of the chapel, paid for from the Tsars Private Wealth.
