"Au Tire Bouchon" is a typical Alsatian restaurant, and also serves as a "big house" wine producer of the "Zimmer" variety. I must admit I was quite surprised by the quality of food. We went there to eat Flammkuchen, also known as "flame cake," pork ribs with caramelized pears, and Münster tart, all accompanied by a very good bottle of Gewurtz 2007. They average price is approximatly 40 euros per person which includes entry + course + dessert + coffee + two bottles of wine! I recommend this place, except between June and August because it is full of tourists.
Heydel is a brasserie in the centre of Colmar. The dim lights and fuchsia walls create an intimate atmosphere, making it really lovely. You enter through a long corridor and sit comfortably, ordering a good hot or cold drink, and one of the rich meals on offer. Prices are a little high, but let's not forget that we're in the centre of Colmar. The quality : price ratio isn't too bad, especially given how friendly the service is.
Le Comptoir de Georges is the first restaurant we went to in Colmar. We went to dine on the terrace overlooking the river that we'd explored hours earlier. The setting is really great, refreshing, and fun, a small duck family also accompanied us throughout the meal. We tried one of the local specialties, ie sauerkraut, which by the way is the best, and strongest, that I have had in my hometown. A good place to consider.
We walked a lot, hiked, camped, but occasionally, we hung around in Colmar. This place gave us a little amusement, especially in the mornings. This bakery-restaurant offers delicious breakfast, and a variety of pizzas sandwiches or a snack, before getting quickly back on track. Prices are far from being excessive, and the terrace and interior are perfectly welcoming and relaxing.
It is difficult to find an open café in Strasbourg before 10am, so we found this little Italian brasserie to have our breakfast. Located at the corner of Castle Square, just opposite the Kammerzell house, it offers very simple chocolates, and all kinds of hot drinks accompanied by local, or the most common pastries.
Alsace is known for its rich culinary heritage, marked by several renowned dishes like sauerkraut, baeckeoffe, flammekueche or the bredels that can be enjoyed especially during Christmas markets. Most restaurants in Strasbourg offer all of these dishes at reasonable prices. A must-visit to discover the true Alsatian culture!
If you want to experience a specialty of the city of Colmar, ie, the flambe cake, known in the region as Flammekuche, I recommend this cozy, small, and friendly restaurant. As the name implies, Flamm's has the cake as it's specialty, although its possible to order a few different things, its really for those who like the flambe cake. I loved it and hope you enjoy it too!
The pastry museum, located as the name suggests a few steps from Unterlinden Museum, is the first cafe with a terrace where we sat in Colmar. The ideal location offers the walkers who want to linger here, the opportunity to take a look at a place full of beautiful homes. As for the coffee and the service, it is very proper, and we had an easy and delicious breakfast. The prices are not excessive due to the privileged location of the cafe.
The idea behind this new restaurant in Strasbourg is simple: a celebration of pastry! Here you can find a range of thirty tarts made from selected products from local producers. Great, original-tasting cakes, unusual products, and more. The setting is contemporary, with live DJ music at the weekend. You can see the tarts prepared in the wood oven before your eyes.
One step from the petite france and the Cathedral of Notre Dame, on a busy street (rue des tailleurs pierre). This place is charming, offers good service and generous portions. They serve typical products and it is very recommendable.
I chose this restaurant, because it has two outstanding features that really blew me away. The atmosphere is great, with a decor of wood and stones, and the boss is passionate about fresh produce, so everything on the menu comes from the farms and forests of the region. The famous steak on a cast iron grill is definitely worth trying ... you'll finish cooking the steak on the grill pan in front of you. Delicious! We finished the meal with their famous chocolate fondue for two, a treat. If you want to enjoy a very original restaurant, give it a go.
If you walk in the vast forest of Neuland, and get hungry, it may be time to stop at the Neuland inn, a restaurant in a unique setting, with simple, but elegant architecture. The restaurant seems to be specialized in holding events. Seeing the surrounding forest, an exceptional space, we can easily understand why. It's possible to stop for a simple snack, or gourmet food. Prices are reasonable for the type, ranging from less than thirty, to forty euros per person.
I was in Strasbourg this summer and I loved this restaurant. It is situated on the Petite France overlooking the canal and has a very original menu. I recommend the salads (giant) and Alsatian pasta. (Spaztel).
