Coffee Shops in Coimbra
Café Santa Cruz
(18)
I went to this iconic café during my visit to Coimbra last year and I consider it a must in the same way that [poi = 59576] Majestic coffee [/ poi] in Porto is a must. This luxurious cafe was inaugurated in 1923 in its namesake plaza, but today offers more affordable prices than it once did. The cafe was once a chapel attached to the Monastery of Santa Cruz, and the previous Manueline-style architecture with its very wide rooms and high ceilings still stands, complete with the stained glass found in most medieval chapels. It's very close to the financial and commercial center of the college-town of Coimbra. Close by, there's a large pedestrian street known as "A Baixa! or Ferreira Borges street where you can find all kinds of shops for clothes, watches, shoes, jewelry, etc.

Burgo Restaurant
(4)
El Burgo, in capital letters, is a typical Portuguese restaurant, located in the Sierra de Lousa, in a unique setting and thirty minutes away from Coimbra. In this cozy restaurant you can see typical game meats such as wild boar with chestnuts tasty, kid, Portuguese stew, and you can't miss the cod that the Portuguese love to prepare in so many different ways. As for the desserts the "talasnicos" or cottage cheese with twelve bóbora, yummy!. For an easy visit to the hotel, you can stay at Melia Palacio da Lousa, a beautiful boutique hotel. It is very close to the restaurant and offers great prices in the low season.

Restaurante Marisqueria Costa Nova

Environment is very nice, the restaurant is NOT a typical house of the area and, in fact, it is ugly and huge ... but inside is better. We went with a baby carriage and there were two attached tables. We ordered a seafood rice for 40 € for two of the 3 and ate leftovers. This place wasn´t bad.

Canastra do Fidalgo
(2)
O Fidalgo is a restaurant on the ria de Costa nova. You can enjoy in a variety of fresh fish daily. A dish that I would recommend is to largeira or rice with lobster, awesome! If you have time I recommend seeing the food market just a few meters from this site.

Churrasqueira Rocha
Rocha a fantastic restaurant in every way, but what stands out is the the specialty of the house "the leitao to bairrada" , a traditional local dish and the wine "sparkling", to accompany it. This restaurant is on the road leading to Luso, has great parking and usually on weekends there are many people. If you do not like to wait I recommend booking.

O Bairro

We went because it was recommended, but our experience was of a place with art deco décor and open kitchen with careful service and an ample menu with affordable prices. When our dinner came, I lacked enough words to compliment the chef. It seemed we were in the Village. We will return to this charming town to enjoy its flavors. Don't miss it.

Recommended by a local, we ordered Caldeirada for 2 and it could really feed 4 (€ 27.00) It was very good. We then ordered a Mango Mousse which was also very good with coffee and water wine. It came out to € 35.00. I recommend visiting it in Aveiro.

Cafe Se Velha

Right at the intersection of Joaquim António de Aguiar and Quebra Costas streets, and next to the [poi = 48565] Plaza de Sé Velha [/ poi] and the [poi = 7150] Old Cathedral [/ poi]. The food is average to good, but it is also true that there aren't so many places to eat in the area around the Cathedral. What we didn't like, however, was that we ordered a half-menu and they charged us for a full one. They could've at least treated us to drinks or something.

Ti Lena Restaurant
(1)
Ti Lena is a charming restaurant in a small cottage situated in the Sierra de Lousa. It´s only open on weekends and holidays because its owner Lisete lives in Coimbra. Reservations are recommended since the restaurant is not very big. Lisete prepares a soup and a delicious goat dish. She also does cod and homemade desserts that I recommend trying. I won´t mention anything about the price because the important thing is to get there and enjoy the northern cuisine and unique rural environment.

Confeitaria Peixinho

The oldest in the city and famous for its "ovos moles", small wafer molds shaped like shells and filled with something like our yemas de St. Teresa (ours are quite good too). We ordered a selection of cakes as you can see in the pictures, English muffins, Cavaca, bolacha, barco etc. Then you eat them on a terrace with an espresso.

A Floresta Restaurant
(2)
While strolling through the streets of Guarda, I found this restaurant with it's very affordable prices, even for dinner. We decided to try our luck their for the nighttime meal. It's a family restaurant with such a long tradition in the city that they boast of being the oldest. They serve typical Portuguese food and of course we opted for the cod, which in Portugal is cooked in a thousand, delicious ways. On this occasion we tried roast potatoes and grilled vegetables and fries, all accompanied by a fabulous vinho verde (green wine). We were served by a very friendly and nice girl and, as often happens in the area, the portions were huge. I more than recommend it!

O Gato Restaurant
(4)
O Gato is a typical restaurant which is situated in the center of the town of Lousa, about 25 kilometers from Coimbra and in the vicinity of the City (Pacos do Concelho) and the parish church (Igreja womb). The place is very welcoming because the cafeteria is deocrated in a rustic style with stone walls and wooden tables and chairs and the iconic castle painted on the wall. The menu is quite varied, predominantly game meats and typical food as chanfana, post Barrosa, picaña, etc.. Good prices and very good presentation on their plates.

The Cafe is famous for its homemade hotcakes and especially for being one of the places whose aroma fills the streets. (4)
Casa Velha is a spacious and cozy restaurant located in the heart of Lousa, a village that is about half an hour from Coimbra. Since its located in mountain area, the specialties are game meats like tasty boar with chestnuts, roast goats, etc. Don't miss their famous cod, it comes prepared in many different ways, but the most typical dish of the area is one called "bacalhao to broa" which is shredded cod with breadcrumbs.
Restaurants in Seia
Abrigo da Floresta Restaurant
O Abrigo da Floresta is a lovely roadside restaurant close to Seia. It's surrounded by trees, in which I discovered when I came back from the Serra da Estrela. When we saw that there were quite a few cars parked up, I decided to try the restaurant and I was not left disappointed as the food is good and reasonably priced. The haddock is well cooked andyou can also choose the octopus served with rice. Soups are "mandatory" in Portugals so try them out because they have a variety, each more flavorful than the last. The restaurant has two dining rooms and was full of people, and yet the service was good, I concluded that it was a typical weekend restaurant, as the saying goes, a picture is worth a thousand words,.i took some of the restaurant/
