The octopus is indeed great. The cooked octopus in water with potatoes was delicious. Pichi is a place where you can dine on fried eggs with potatoes for €3.50. Home cooking, large portions, excellent deal.
Having toured the area near the port of O Grove we decided to dine at this restaurant even though it was on the first street on the harbor, the price was the same as all establishments, but perhaps it was a tad cheaper . What I liked was the terrace which was very spacious with separate tables and excellent care. The amount of dishes on the menu was quite large, in the end we opted for seafood with Alvariño that worked out around 45 euros. From the seafood menu the highlights are razor clams which were delicious. Finally, I tried the oysters - exquisite. After ordering the seafood, we wondered if it might have been better to ask for rations that had more or less quantity and more would have gone for the same price but we were quite satisfied with the seafood. The restaurant's decor is not its forte but from the terrace you can see the harbor area of O Grove. A recommendation is to try to get there around 21h for dinner because at 22:30 all the tables outside were occupied and people stood waiting. I think it's a restaurant I would recommend if you go to O Grove.
In O Grove there are so many restaurants that are overwhelmed. Most of them are at the port and after looking at menus we realized that prices are similar. I mean if you offer a dish 1 euro cheaper than the restaurant next door, surely the next dish will be 2 euros more expensive than the other side and so on, meaning that prices are almost the same everywhere. Perhaps that is why we decided to go into town with the intention of finding a more traditional (or less touristy) restaurant, which I think now, frankly, is impossible in O Grove. We ended up in a very average restaurant, the kind without the typical decoration of buoys and nets in all restaurants near fishing ports and perhaps that convinced us. Prices were identical to the rest but it seems to me that the kitchen was a bit more careful. In fact, without equivocation, I ate the best mussels I've ever had in my life, steamed, of course. As we were craving it we ordered paella - exquisite. The rice was ready. The quality seafood was very good in terms of price. They also have a good selection of wines.
This is a family restaurant run by the owner, Roberto, and his wife, who is in charge of the kitchen. On Roberto's recommendation my husband and I first had a hearty Caldo Gallego, tiny grilled scallops. Then we had peppers stuffed with crab and finally a potato dish with egg and sausage, all accompanied by a bottle of local Ribeira Sacra at €12. For the sweet tooth there was mille-feuille with aniseed and roasted sugar. All this and personal attention for €24 per person.
O Lagar da Platería is a small wine bar-tapería established in O Grove a few years ago. Its decor makes it a welcoming place - antique furniture mixed with more modern things. Also the lighting is just right - intimate and quiet. It is usually very crowded so it's best to go early or book a table. I have been on several occasions and left very satisfied. Every time you take something you get to choose between three types of pinchos, the one I like is one of those on Tuesdays, corn bread with fried egg, a rich combination. If you want dinner, they offer a variety of tapas among which are varied bread toasts, homemade pates, Zorza, smoked, some seafood and salads. Their prices are quite cheap, so I recommend it because you eat well and cheaply.
Mesón do Mar (Meson del Mar) in O Grove, specializes in traditional cuisine. It has two air-conditioned dining rooms, access for the disabled and a seafood aquarium. The specialties are seafood and fish of the estuary, lobster with rice, homemade tapas and seafood paella. It also has an extensive menu with wines and desserts.
This Italian restaurant has conquered me since I was a few years old. I do not particularly like the space and its decoration but the food is so good that it is worth going there. It is located in one of the most central areas of the town of O Grove, right on the sea front, with the town bus station next door. It has two floors, the ground floor being a small bar with five or six tables. From the upstairs room you can enjoy the sea view. The variety of the menu is extensive and includes meats, pastas, pizzas, some seafood, soups and a thousands other things. The owners of this restaurant are Italian and they themselves work in the kitchen and attend the tables. This makes this restaurant a real family restaurant, which pampers and cares very much for each and every customer. The choice of desserts is also very wide, all homemade. The value for money is good and I would absolutely recommend it.
The Restaurant D'Berto in Pontevedra is considered one of the best seafood restaurants in Spain. It can seat 70 guests comfortably. it also boasts a winery where you can taste the best wines. It has been open since 1989. It is air-conditioned and you have to book in advance.
Cantodorxo Restaurant is located at Rua Rons number 38, opposite one of the most quiet beaches of the town of O Grove and the Ria de Arosa. We discovered this place during the course of our bike outing to Rias Baixas and Finisterre in September 2009. We were pleasantly surprised at their seafood tapas and good service. After lunch we enjoyed a quiet afternoon at the beach. We shall return!
